"I just cannot imagine life without Classkick"
Our team had the privilege of visiting Mr. Contreras', an incredible teacher with an infectious energy and drive to improve learning in his classes and across the district. We visit many schools, listening to students, teachers and school leaders. We believe educators’ and learners’ feedback is invaluable to making better tools for learning. Below are some excerpts of what we learned from teachers at San Mateo Union High School District in California.
What is the main benefit of Classkick for your class?
Here's the main reason Classkick has increased learning in my class sooooooo much.
Our school is standards based, and that's quite hard to implement in practice. The idea is you give the maximum amount of opportunity for students to learn. However, I previously struggled with it a lot because kids would have these binders and packets and they'd lose things. Even if theoretically they had the chance to go back and re-try to get their mastery credit, they would rarely actually do it, because it's very hard to manage and track.
But Classkick takes care of all that!
The Challenge: Mastery-Based Learning Is Hard to Manage
- Student work gets lost
- Students could retry work—but rarely did
- Catching up was nearly impossible for late-joining students
✅ The Classkick Solution:
- All units and mastery levels in one place
- Real-time, scaffolded feedback keeps students engaged
- Students can retry work anytime, anywhere
- Motivation skyrockets — all the way through the end of the year
🧰 Why It Works:
- Teachers adjust in real time
- Easy for students to follow and revisit units/learning objectives/work
- Built-in multimedia, voice recordings, and feedback
- No more copy machines—more time for actual teaching
It means students never give up...
More mastery, more motivation, more tries, less teacher/admin overhead
I can scaffold a lot! The kids love it because it’s like a game, getting feedback at each step of the process. They keep going and never give up the whole year. They work their rear ends off on as many standards as they can, all the way up to the day of the final. It’s amazing. I make it so that at every step there is feedback, so they’re getting scaffolded real time formative assessment. Unlike out-of-the-box platforms, in Classkick it's very easy to make adjustments, to fit student needs in the moment. Learners thrive on that and keep going. The students enjoy knowing that what they are doing is correct right away as the technology allows for powerful immediate feedback, allowing them to focus on concepts that are particularly challenging. It a also allows me to work with students who need more attention and support.
How do you set it up?
We have 10-12 units in the year, and each unit has 4 mastery levels. So it’s kind of like there’s 40-48 big learning objectives in the year. When we do a unit in class, we go at the pace that makes the most sense for the overall class. However, if someone takes an assessment, and they haven’t mastered the unit, it’s no problem! Because on Classkick it’s easy to go back, re-learn it, and demonstrate they can do it, and I can easily give them feedback and opportunities to do this in the year.
If they are happy with their grade, they don't need to retake assessments, but if they aren't happy, they have multiple opportunities to retake it. And because it's all there in Classkick, and they get feedback real-time and it immediately impacts their grade they just keep going, like the energizer bunny. The extra practice and assessments are right there organized as unit modules in Classkick.
This means, instead of kids falling behind after the unit is over, they are constantly working to stay at the frontier of their ability. Classkick unlocks motivation!
Also, there used to be cases where a student is behind, or they just moved to this district so they're joining my class halfway through the year. In the past, these students would have a very hard time catching up, and most likely they had to repeat the course. But now, they can see every unit and lesson they need to work on, and they get immediate feedback on it, and guess what - they do it! Kids don't get left behind anymore.

What are some other things you like about Classkick?
Some other major benefits - kids audio record their answers and their thinking in assessments which I love. I embed youtube videos for them. They get automated feedback. I tried everything on the internet. Many other popular platforms, they're very clunky and hard for teachers to use. Classkick is so easy. The other platforms also aren't truly real-time. But Classkick is - if I make a mistake or need to make a change in Classkick, I just make it right there in class and it changes for everyone immediately. In addition, it saves me so much time fighting with the copy machines. Instead, I use most of my time in improving curriculum and learning activities. The technology makes my classroom so much more efficient, and we can do much more than before. Transitions are so seamless and we really make the most of each second of class. Classkick is the main repository for all class resources (notes, solutions guides, videos, worksheets, assessments), and students can access them anywhere anytime.
“I cannot imagine life without Classkick. We use it for mastery. It is like oh my God! We put every skill assessment in here. I’m able to manage multiple units all at once. And as a result kids work hard! They achieve much more than in the past.”
